Wii for the upcoming holidays

It is amazing to me that the Wii console is still out of stock most places.
Since I’ve had mine since January, this is not a major concern for me. For the rest of you out there that are still hunting for yours, I offer the following advice:

Try to find a Wii at your local stores [...]

Grumble

Whenever I try to get a cell phone, it always ends up being a circus.
For instance earlier today I ordered the previously mentioned Nokia N95.  I must now reject receiving it because this phone is going to be out in a couple of weeks.
From the product description:

Uses 3.5G wireless technology for easy, convenient Internet browsing
Features [...]

Phone followup (again)

So tomorrow, the iPhone goes back just under the two-week-trial wire and I will be in a dead zone of no phone limbo until my Nokia n95 arrives when I’m at my conference in San Diego next week.
No phone for a few days. That will be an odd feeling. I wonder if I [...]

iPhone fails it

I am out of patience with the iPhone. It’s fired.

no MMS. Instead, you get directed to this joke.
no GPS
no tethering without hacking it
no applications until at least Feb ‘08
only EDGE networking

Seriously. How can any phone be released not having MMS? It was the straw that broke my already highly annoyed camel’s [...]

Betrayed by Nokia

I mentioned in an earlier entry about how Nokia recommends upgrading their customers phones to solve security problems in their bluetooth support and other problems.I took it upon myself to go to their webpage for software updates, install the Nokia PC Suite and the Nokia Software Updater, and followed their instructions to upgrade my software. What happened was that it the Nokia software bluescreened Windows XP in the middle of my firmware upgrade of my E61.It looked to be that my phone was now bricked.I was one of the first consumers in the country to get my E61, recommended it to my peers and clients, and it had served me well until now…. Failing to provide a safe way to apply them and then refusing to support it after their own products fail to do what they should is a betrayal to their customers.Since I can not be without a phone, I had to run out and pick up an iPhone as an interim replacement, which I am not happy about at all.

New Wii games

There are a lot of Wii games out now, and basically none for the ps3. Here are a list of some that I’ve tried and briefly what I’ve thought of them.

Media Defender antics

TorrentFreak seems to have the most involved and comprehensive tale of what they contain. This is a great example of people who do some things well getting caught doing things that are not their strengths. If you are going to establish an organization that will become a target for, arguably, some of the worlds most skilled and experienced technophiles, you should plan accordingly. That they were ever outed at all is a failure, but things like this (quoted from digg article) show how if you are untrained, ignorant, or sloppy, it can bring down an entire enterprise:The genius employee of MD subscribed to a torrent site using the gmail account he had setup as an email archive as the username and used the same password for the torrent site as he did for the gmail account….  Price and availability must be correct or it will be circumvented by someone with time on their hands that will make money created by those that can not, or will not, purchase what you are selling in the way you choose to sell it.This is the gist of all of the DRM, piracy, and putting-the-gene-back-in-the-bottle problem.

Mobile networking in a pinch

Any geek worth their salt nowadays seems to have a mobile device such as a blackberry, sidekick, smartphone, or data card for a laptop oh their person when out and about.
I am no exception.
I have actually converted several trend-setting alpha nerds over to the Powerbook/Macbook Pro + Nokia E61 combination over the last couple [...]

Gaming out of hand a bit?

I look forward to finding out.I don’t plan on buying it myself, however.I would think that if I was that serious about being in a band, I would actually go and be in a band instead of mastering the art of playing fake instruments.Perhaps this is the line I don’t cross that others do. I also don’t need a racing seat to play racing games:”Playseats Evolution Gaming Seat (White with Silver)” (Playseats)I understand that some people need to actually be in a racing chair with a force feedback steering wheel and press actual pedals with their feet.

Activision ball-dropping games

It’s called Enemy Territory.I pre-ordered so that I could reserve a handle and get some posters and other junk I’ll give away later on.The interesting part is that whoever handles their internet services [pre-order email, the activation tokens, and whatever comes next], doesn’t know how to do their job.I tooled around calling EB’s support people to get my confirmation code which never arrived.

…I specified a gmail address for my email and it never arrived because of this.My validation code is the following:XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX 12I requested the handle of [a handle here].I believe I used the email address of email@address.hereI don’t know what else has happened as I haven’t been able to get any more information do to your misconfigured servers.02:10 <@nyt> rattus: yeah, told you, gotta whitelist the ip block02:10 <@nyt> their reverse dns doesnt work02:11 <@nyt> 63.146.124.0/2402:12 <@nyt> http://www.enemyterritory.com/preorder/forgotactivation.php?lang=en02:12 <@nyt> i had to modify my reverse dns checking code02:12 <@nyt> to allow me to add entries for retards02:12 <@nyt> to get the mail from themI don’t have manage gmail.com, so I have a problem.
