About me personally.

The encrypted traveler

As border enforcement as using increasingly invasive tactics, a traveler that has any privacy concerns for the data that they are carrying (especially if visiting the United States) will very likely take steps to protect themselves.

Gordon Ramsay: Food Hacker

I really enjoy cooking. I like it because eating is a fundamental part of every human life that everyone can appreciate inherently. I also because there is no “correct method” of doing it. There are nearly unlimited variations of preparation, ingredients, and palates.
With all of these variables, I think most people would agree that cooking [...]

Pie for the holidays

This year I went to a friends house for Thanksgiving. Instead of going the easy way, I decided to make some pies.
Pumpkin is traditional and pecan was requested, so that’s what I prepared.
Pecan-o-riffic
I made a non-traditional pecan using this recipe to avoid using corn syrup. Why is corn syrup a problem? A little searching [...]

Flying geekstyle

There are enough platinum/exectutive/diamond flyers taking up the reduced space in the first class compartment to guarantee that I, without at least moderate elite status, will not be upgraded. What is a nerd to do?I now pick underutilized flights, get a window seat, and sit sideways with my laptop or reading material hogging the middle seat.As you can see, the windows are behind me…. This also reduces the amount of people who have access to snooping on me while I work.Another win.Things I take with me when I travel in this hostile airport-rich environment:One or more laptops (depending on work being performed)Personal media player with cheap noise canceling headphones (I have an old pair of Aiwas that I purchased 8 years ago for $50 from an electronics chain.)

IT Compliance Institute Conference

I am a speaker at the ITCi compliance conference this November in San Diego.
The speakers list and agenda are both very impressive.  I’m excited and pleased to be included.
It should be a great conference, and I’ll hope to see you there.

National Museum of Rome

I ran around the National Museum of Rome with my camera here for a while until people started yelling “no video” at me…. I’ll make sure to update this entry later on with a photo gallery of what I saw there.

London Aquarium

This is one of the best aquariums I have experienced…. The rays would come to the surface to be petted.

Streets of Paris

My trip was delayed into the middle of the high tourist season, so I didn’t bother going to the Eiffel Tower or to the Louvre. I just walked around the city, had lunch, and then caught the train to London.
