Gaming out of hand a bit?

I wonder. When I see things like Rock Band

“Rock Band Special Edition” (Electronic Arts)

I have a real problem taking it seriously.

Sure, Guitar Hero is sort of fun. I’ll be likely to pick it up for ps3 when it comes out in October:

“Guitar Hero III Bundle” (Activision)

It does have internet play and downloadable content. C’mon. You know you want it.

Seriously though. DDR on a fake guitar is one thing, but combining a whole band for Rock Band is a little excessive. It has a mic, a drum set, and another ubiquitous fake guitar. What sets it apart? Will people like it more than the latest batch of guitar hero and competitive karaoke game? I look forward to finding out.

I don’t plan on buying it myself, however.

I would think that if I was that serious about being in a band, I would actually go and be in a band instead of mastering the art of playing fake instruments.

Perhaps this is the line I don’t cross that others do. I also don’t need a racing seat to play racing games:

“Playseats Evolution Gaming Seat (White with Silver)” (Playseats)

I understand that some people need to actually be in a racing chair with a force feedback steering wheel and press actual pedals with their feet. To me this is excessive.

Here is one relatively brilliant accessory though. Dear readers, I present to you, the buttkicker:

“Buttkicker BK-GR Gamer” (Buttkicker)

This device attaches to the bottom of a chair so that you, and your ass, can experience the thrill of subwoofers without subjecting all of your neighbors to it as well. A very cool idea for those of us that don’t play games from our own personal concrete bunkers.

I know some people who would deeply appreciate such a device in their neighbors homes.
